Work Completed
- Preliminary Visual Design
- Logo
Summary
I completed a preliminary visual design of the site. This is typically referred to as a wireframe,
and can be seen in the the links section below. The site itself will be divided into a primary navigation section,
a user specific information section, and a details section. The primary navigation will allow the user to
access different areas of the site. The user specific section will allow users to log in, or view options
available to specific users. The details section will hold recipe data, search results, and any form data
that the user will enter. Conceptually, the primary navigation will remain static page to page, the user
specific section will change from user to user, and the details section will change from page to page.
Additionally, there will be a search section that appears on each page.
In Chapter 4 of his book, Michael Allen talks about ADDIE being a "fatally flawed process." He goes on to
espouse an idea of Successive Approximation, which invloves functional prototyping and quick and dirty work.
I disagree with this viewpoint on several levels; it has been my experience that 1 good hour spent on analysis
will save 3-5 hours in design, 1 good hour spent on design will save 3-5 hours in implementation. My approach
to this project reflects my views, in that I spent a good deal of time in analysis and design, and at this point,
haven't really started in implementation; the single exception is that with the logo design, I've started
visual implementation.
